Reuben Halpern   ~   Metal Artist
Reuben Halpern was born in Walbrzych, Poland in 1948 of parents who survived the horrors of World War II.  In 1957, at the age of 9, Reuben's family immigrated to Isreal. There he lived on a Kibbutz for several years until his family moved to the town of Kiryat Shmona. It was then he began creating metal art.  After graduation high school he attended Yod Naton.

Yod Naton was an agricultural school outside the city of Akko.  There he graduated as a practical engineer in agricultural machinery and farming.

Upon graduation, Reuben entered the Israeli Army in their Nachal Air Born Unit.  After being wounded, he was retired as veteran of the Israeli Army.

In 1968, while driving his tractor, patrolling the border at Argamon, he went over a land mine and was wounded. After a slow and painful recovery period, he returned to civilian life in Kiryat Shmona. There, in 1970, he met his future wife Karen Adrienne Allen, from Birmingham, AL, who was there on a Sharot Laom Program.

In 1971 Reuben and Karen were married in Haifia, Isreal.  They resided for 7 years in Kiryat Atta.
Their two sons, Jacob and allen were born in Haifa.

In 1977 the Halpern family moved to birmingham, Alabama.  Reuben found satisfaction working in machinery fabrication, welding cutting and bonding.  The scrap metal and parts "talked" to him.  He became creative with abstract and functional metal art.  He even developed a love for yard art.

Today Reuben enjoys aiding his wife and sons in their chemical company K-Chem, Inc.  in Birmingham.  He works as well with the Ruston Foundation in its farming program.  And of course, reuben is in his studio every day creating new metal art.

We hope you will enjoy the metal art of Reuben Halpern.  And look for him at different art shows and galleries as he continues to enchant the art lovers with his metal art.
